Professor Charles Leedham-Green is a Professor of Pure Mathematics, Queen Mary, University of London, retired. His research is in the area of group theory, where he published over 50 research articles and co-authored (with S. McKay) the definitive monograph The Structure of Groups of Prime Power Order (Oxford University Press, 2002).
A translation for mathematicians.
Twenty years ago I decided to translate Newton’s masterpiece, his Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, or Principia for short. When I started, I had no idea how complex the task was or how rewarding it would be. My annotated translation, The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, will be published by CUP in March 2021. This blog is an opportunity to share with others some of the fascinating problems and ideas I had to tackle over those twenty years.
